Sarat Chandra Kuthi – Samta Village

I visited the this old heritage building last week (Jan 2024). It was pending on my list for a long time. Arguably he is one of the most well known writers of India. People who are not into literature will know him for Devdas (made into multiple movies) and Shrikant(80s TV serial, Farooque Shaikh). But leaving this aside, Sarat Chandra has a vast body of work and has had a very interesting life. Please check the Wiki page and you will understand what I am referring to.

He stayed in in this villa for around a decade. It has been constructed in Burma style. The compound of this kuthi also has his and his brother’s samadhi.
The visiting hours start from 3:30 pm.
There space to park the vehicles and they charge a small amount for it. But the approach roads, especially the last 1 kilometre is congested and more so on holidays when more people visit.
