Sundarban Wild Animal Park – Jharkhali

This is a small zoo in Jharkhali. One needs to park the vehicle some 1 km away and then take a Toto or walk to the zoo. There was Tigers and Crocodiles in the zoo. And there is a small grass lawn where one can sit and rest. They have made provisions for children’s playground equipment as well so that they don’t get bored. They have an elephant shaped slide, swings and merry-go-rounds.
The Tigers are protected by double cages and the cages are more than 50 metres away at the closest point. So you get to see only fleeting shadows of the cats and that too intermittently.
How to reach the Jharkhali Wild Animal Park?
To reach the park from Kolkata, you can take the trains from Sealdah to Canning and then take Auto or Toto from the Canning station to the Park via Jharkhali Bazar.
If you want to drive, then the place is around 120 kms from Kolkata with excellent roads till Jharkhali Bazar. Afterwards the last 3-4 kms are bad. But nothing that a 4-wheeler or 2-wheeler can’t negotiate.
Children making the most of the playground equipment
There are a few merry-go-rounds, Swings and slides at this park and the children did their best to use them. It was warm and sunny but the temperature was comfortable 23-24 Deg Cent.
